Image Lab

Photographs and graphics, handled to an exact specification: a file size in kilobytes, a pixel dimension, or a format. Every tool decodes and re-encodes inside your browser, so a 40 MB camera file costs no upload time and never reaches a server.

Questions about image tools

Why compress by target size rather than quality?

Because the constraint you are given is almost always a number: 50 KB for an exam portal, 2 MB for an email attachment. A quality slider makes you guess at that number; a target search solves for it directly.

Does re-encoding lose quality every time?

Yes — JPEG and WebP are lossy, so each pass compounds. Work from the original file rather than a previously compressed copy whenever you can.

Which output format should I pick?

WebP reaches any given size at better quality than JPEG, but not every upload form accepts it. Follow the form's accepted list; otherwise WebP is the better default.
