Privacy policy
The tools process your files inside your browser. We do not receive them, store them or see them — and this page explains exactly what we do handle.
The short version
Files you open in a ToolZool tool are processed inside your browser. They are not transmitted to us, not stored on a server, and not seen by anyone. This is not a promise about our conduct; it is a consequence of how the tools are built. There is no upload endpoint to send a file to.
Everything below is the detail behind that sentence.
What we process
When you use a tool, your file is decoded, processed and re-encoded entirely by code running in your browser tab. It is discarded from memory when you close or reload the page.
We therefore hold no copy of your file, no derived version of it, no filename, and no record that a particular file was processed. If you asked us to delete a file you had compressed, we would have nothing to delete.
What is stored on your device
ToolZool writes a small amount of data to your browser’s local storage. It stays on your device, is never transmitted to us, and can be cleared at any time.
| Key | What it holds | Why |
|---|---|---|
toolzool:theme | light or dark | So the site does not flash the wrong theme on your next visit |
toolzool:recents | A short list of tool pages you opened | So you can get back to a tool in one tap from the Recent screen |
toolzool:recents records which tool pages you opened — never file contents, file names, file sizes, or anything about what you processed. You can clear it from the Recent page, or by clearing site data in your browser.
Server logs
ToolZool is served as static files from a content delivery network. Like every web server, it records ordinary request information — the page requested, a timestamp, an approximate location derived from the network, and the browser’s user-agent string — for the purpose of serving the site and protecting it from abuse. These logs are retained by our hosting provider under their own retention policy and are not used to build a profile of you.
Analytics
We do not currently run any analytics. No third-party analytics script loads on any page of this site.
If that changes we will say so here, we will state which provider it is, and we will choose one that does not use cookies or attempt to identify individuals. Until then, we do not know how many people visit ToolZool or which tools they use — which is inconvenient for us and correct for you.
Cookies
ToolZool sets no cookies. The two items described above are local storage entries, which are not cookies, are never sent to a server, and are not used to track you across sites.
The cookie policy covers this in more detail, including what would change if we ever introduced advertising.
Advertising
There is no advertising on ToolZool today, and no advertising network script loads on any page.
If we introduce advertising in future, an ad network may set cookies or read device identifiers, subject to your consent where the law requires it. We will publish the partner’s name here before that happens, and declining will never change how the tools work.
Third parties
ToolZool loads no third-party scripts, fonts, trackers or embeds. Typefaces are served from our own domain rather than a font CDN, specifically so that visiting the site does not disclose your visit to a third party.
Our hosting provider necessarily handles the network requests that deliver the site. They do not receive your files, because your files are never part of a network request.
Your rights
Where the GDPR, UK GDPR or a comparable law applies, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold about you. Because ToolZool requires no account and processes no files on our side, in almost every case we hold nothing that identifies you.
If you contact us by email, we hold that email — your address and the content of your message — for as long as needed to deal with it. You can ask us to delete it.
Children
ToolZool is a general-purpose utility site and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, of any age.
Changes to this policy
Material changes will be published on this page with a revised date. Where a change affects how data is handled, we will also note it on the homepage for a period afterwards.
Who operates ToolZool
ToolZool has only just launched and its operator details are not yet published here. We would rather leave this blank than print a placeholder that looks like a legal entity. It will be filled in, and this notice removed, before the site carries advertising or accepts any payment. In the meantime you can reach us through the contact page.
